Dazed & Confused, AR and Pokeware

So you’re thinking big deal just another magazine using augmented reality (alla Esquire) but the difference is the videos in the Dazed AR issue use pokeware. Pokeware is a technology that allows content (ads) to be overlaid within the viewing experience.

Thus you can point/click and see the name of a handbag and where to buy in a fashion video or the brand of Kayne’s sneakers in a music video. If done eloquently and does not overtly impede the original content, it could be cool. Maybe the ad industry will be a little less worried about TIVO.

I saw this after searching out the music track on it.   It gets a bit redundant, but still interesting to see even the subtle evolution.

As for how this might relate to what we do…. The composer/artist is Carly Comando, has also done some work for commercials.  She wrote the track specifically for this video so given the right project, would likely write something original.

A Change is gonna come

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

I remember many years ago hearing the term integration referencing how traditional agencies would seamlessly integrate digital into their offering. A lot of agencies proclaimed that they were integrated and forward thinking back then but in reality few were.

Today the term is back again and spoken about but in a different way … saying you’re integrated is not about appearing forward thinking it’s about survival. Blame it on the economy and shifts in budget; blame it on the rapid change of technology, blame it on Darwin but integration is now expected.

Below is a really good article, one person’s POV on how to integrate, it’s a little old (2008) but has some relevant points. The line that speaks to me is:

Successful integration is based around one very simple concept: don’t think of integrating digital into traditional. Think about it as integrating traditional into digital.

Need Attention

Need Attention

Vaguebooking: the act of posting an unclear status that prompts, even dares, friends to ask you more.

It begs the questions is their anything wrong with a little mystery, a little intrigue and the need for attention? Whatever it takes to get beyond a voice of one.

Crash and Burn

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I saw this and found some of it interesting – good production value even if the storyline is kinda gruesome. A taste of what is to come for online interactive shows.

The online experience at autotopsy.ca puts the viewer in the driving seat as the show’s main character and a young insurance claims adjuster Jimmy Burns is hot on the tail of a multi-vehicle pile-up. The viewer is taken through his journey step-by-step to piece together the complex jigsaw, and invited into a hellish crash scene that allows them to delve deeper and witness the moments leading up to the crash.

Part-game, part-narrative experiment, the site serves up interactive video content alongside character case studies that provide hints and distractions alike.

Not sure how many people will go there but love the frozen images and the ability to explore.

IOGRAPHICA

iograph
A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a Java applet that let you track your mouse on screen live. Your co-ordinates converted into lines, your mouse pauses transformed into circles of varying sizes depending on the duration of the pause (longer = bigger) I ran this for a couple days and found great enjoyment in the results at the end of each day. Naturally I shared my results on flickr and via twitter.

The reaction to this little project by Anatoly Zenkov from his flickr feed was outstanding, so much so that its evolved into a full fledged app with the help of Andrey Shipilov

Want to see your mousing habits? How you work? Where you leave your mouse when you go to lunch?

CODEORGAN!

codeorgan
Oh man do I love code. I love HTML, CSS, AS, php, the list of acronyms is long. What do I love more than code? Organs? not quite but I love the idea of taking code that was written for one purpose and transforming it into another experience altogether. An experience that the original coder never intended as a final output.

I present you with CODEORGAN. The simple premise of the site is you input in a URL and hit the “PLAY THIS WEBSITE” button. Wait a tick and then listen to the music that is generated from that sites source code. Amazing right? Don’t believe me?

Check it out for yourself.
